Paired Alternatives for Couples (2026): Which App Fits Your Relationship?

What should couples know about paired alternatives?

If you want more than daily questions, Couple App adds two-player games, a shared Canvas, nudges, widgets and Intimacy Lab on iPhone and iPad. Between is known for a private shared space for memories, Lasting for structured relationship programs and Agapé for a one-question-a-day ritual.

A note on perspective: this article is published by Couple App. It covers Couple App alongside other alternatives, and we've kept claims about other apps to what they're known for. Check each app's current App Store listing for features, platforms and pricing. Updated October 2026.

The short answer

Paired is known for its daily question format. If that works for you, it's a reasonable choice. If you want games, prompts and shared tools in one place, cheaper or more personal questions, or a more structured programme, the alternatives below are sorted by what you're missing.

Why people leave Paired

Most couples searching for apps like Paired aren't unhappy with it. They've hit one of four snags:

  • Cost. Paired is known for keeping a deeper library in a subscription, and if only one of you is keen, paying can feel lopsided.
  • Wanting to play, not answer. Daily questions are great for talking. Some evenings you'd rather beat your partner at something.
  • Wanting something live. Answering on your own time can feel like passing notes. Playing at the same moment feels like hanging out.
  • Wanting smaller signals. Not every moment needs a deep question. Sometimes "thinking of you" is the whole message.

Figure out which one is yours first. It decides which alternative fits.

Apps like Paired, by what you're missing

If you're missing play: Couple App or Flamme

Couple App is ours. It swaps "answer and wait" for things you do at the same moment: Connect Four, Air Hockey and Battleship, each of you on your own phone. There's also a new question every day (some ask for a photo or a voice note, some are quick this-or-that picks), Daily Snap photo prompts, a Shared Canvas you draw on together in real time, and Intimacy Lab, a deck of dares and positions where you each swipe yes, no or maybe and only see a match when you both say yes. It's free to download from the App Store on iPhone and iPad; the trade-offs are that it isn't on Android yet, has no private chat and offers no therapy or clinical content.

Flamme is known for being more gamified, with lighter questions. It's a good fit if your conversations are already in good shape and you want the app to be the fun part of the day, but lighter questions won't suit couples who want to go deep.

If you're missing a lower price: Agapé

Agapé is known for free daily questions and describes its approach as research-based. If the daily question was the part of Paired you used most, Agapé keeps that habit going. It's question-led, so it won't help if what you want is to play. Couple App is also free to download; its listing shows what's included. Our guide to free apps for couples covers more free options.

If you're missing personalisation: Aperi

Aperi is known for AI-personalised daily questions and is a newer name among couples apps. If generic prompts started to feel like they were written for some other couple, this is the one to try. As a newer app it has less history to go on, so skim the most recent reviews.

If you're missing one place for everything: Cupla

Cupla is known as an all-in-one toolkit for couples. It suits you if Paired was one of several relationship apps on your phone and you'd like fewer. A toolkit asks you to choose, so agree on two or three features together, or you'll use none.

If you're missing depth: Lasting

Lasting is known for therapy-style programmes and is aimed at couples in active repair rather than everyday upkeep. If you left Paired because you need more structure for a hard season, Lasting fits better than any playful app here, and so does a qualified couples therapist. If things are fine and just a bit samey, it may feel like homework. Our Lasting alternatives guide looks at when it's worth it.

If you're missing a private space for memories: Between

Between is one of the longer-running couples apps, known for a private space for two to keep photos and memories. Check its listing for current features, platforms and pricing.

The nudge layer

None of the other apps here is known for mood and attention signals, the "smaller signals" snag above. Couple App has four nudges: Send Love, I'm in the Mood, I Need Attention and Teleport Here. Your partner gets each one as a notification, and there's a Nudges widget for your Home Screen or Lock Screen. "I need attention" is hard to type without it reading like a complaint. As a nudge, it's just honest, and a little funny.

Living together or long distance

If you share a home, try the games first: ten minutes of Air Hockey across the sofa is sillier than another episode, and a doodle on the Shared Canvas can say good morning before either of you is awake enough to talk.

If you're apart, you want an app that acknowledges the gap. Couple App's Distance widget shows how far apart you are, Together For shows how long you've been together, and Teleport Here reaches your partner as a notification. Our guide to the best apps for long-distance couples covers more options.

Free vs paid: check this before you both download

A couples app needs two installs, so a surprise upgrade screen costs you double the goodwill. Before switching, open the App Store listing and check "In-App Purchases" near the download button and the list further down, which hints at what's paid and how plans are named. Listings don't always say whether a paid plan includes both partners, so ask the developer's support before anyone buys.

Should you stay with Paired?

Stay if its daily questions and expert journeys are what you both open, and the subscription feels worth it. Switch, or add a second app, if the reason you drifted is one of the four snags above. For ideas to play with or without an app, see our couple games list.

What questions do couples ask?

Is Paired worth paying for, or should we switch?

If you both open Paired most days and like what you get, it may be worth it; check its listing for current plans. If you've drifted, name what's missing and pick the alternative built for that gap.

Is there a free app like Paired?

Couple App is free to download on iPhone and iPad, and Agapé is known for free daily questions. What's free inside each app changes, so read the In-App Purchases section of every listing.

What is the best Paired alternative for long-distance couples?

Couple App has tools aimed at distance: a Distance widget, a Together For widget, nudges like Teleport Here, and two-player games you play on your own phones. It's free to download on iPhone and iPad.

What's the best Paired alternative for playing games together?

In our view, Couple App, because Connect Four, Air Hockey and Battleship are played live with each partner on their own phone. Flamme is worth a look if you'd rather have a gamified take on questions.

Is there a Paired alternative with personalised questions?

Aperi is known for AI-personalised daily questions. It's a newer app, so read its listing and the most recent reviews before you both sign up.

Is Lasting a good Paired alternative?

If you need structured help for a rough patch, yes, and a qualified couples therapist is worth considering too. If things are fine but routine, a playful app is likely a better match.

How is Couple App different from Paired?

Paired is known for its daily question format. Couple App has a daily question too, and adds two-player games, Daily Snap, a shared Canvas, nudges, widgets and Intimacy Lab.

Can we use Couple App if one of us has Android?

Not yet. Couple App is on iPhone and iPad only, so you both need one. For the other apps, check the App Store or Google Play directly.

Do both partners need to pay for a couples app?

It depends on the app. Check each listing and its support page to see whether a paid plan includes both partners before either of you buys.
